OCT 16, 2025
At 60 years old,Ā Ron Cairns from Bradford, Ontario, has lived a life defined by hard work and resilience. As a construction supervisor, he spent decades on his feet ā until severe arthritis in both knees changed everything.
For 15 years, Ron battled constant pain and declining mobility. The physical strain took a mental toll, leading to anxiety and depression. āIt was tough,ā Ron recalls. āEvery step hurt. I tried everything ā medication, therapy, injections ā but nothing gave me lasting relief.ā
Then came another blow: a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease that severely damaged his kidneys. Soon, he was on dialysis and told it could take years before heād receive a transplant.
A Turning Point
Before the transplant could happen, Ronās doctors recommended double knee replacement surgery. The recovery process was long and grueling ā but for Ron, it was the beginning of a new chapter.
āRegaining my mobility was life-changing,ā he says. āAfter years of pain, I could finally move again.ā
During his rehabilitation, a close friend introduced him to something that would completely transform his outlook on life ā electric bikes.

Discovering the Alaska Pro M-520
āI wasnāt sure at first,ā Ron admits. āBut after trying an e-bike, I was hooked.ā He soon purchased the Freesky Alaska Pro M-520, drawn by its dual battery system, fat tires, and powerful performance.
āIt was perfect ā the design, the comfort, the power. I could ride long distances without pain or strain. It gave me a sense of freedom I hadnāt felt in years.ā
What began as short rides around town quickly turned into long adventures. Ron recalls one unforgettable trip:
āI rode from Bradford to Barrie, then along the Kobold Trail to Orillia and around Lake Simcoe ā over 180 kilometers in one day. The wind in my hair, the open road ahead⦠I felt alive again. Like a kid, carefree and full of joy.ā
A Second Chance at Life
Recently, Ron received a kidney transplant at Toronto General Hospital ā just three days before sharing his story. āIām beyond grateful for the gift of life,ā he says. āAnd as I recover, Iām already dreaming about upgrading my Alaska Pro M-520 and getting back on the trails.ā
For Ron, the bike isnāt just a mode of transport ā itās a symbol of recovery, freedom, and rediscovery.
āThis bike gave me back a part of myself I thought Iād lost forever. The child I once was has come out again after 50 years.ā
He smiles as he looks toward the future:
āI canāt wait to feel the wind in my hair and the sun on my face again. Thanks to Freesky, I know Iāve got many more adventures ahead.ā
